What Is Ferro Silicon

Ferro Silicon Production Process

Ferrosilicon is an important ferroalloy material, which has a wide range of applications. Through reasonable production process and strict standards, the quality and performance of ferrosilicon can be guaranteed to meet the needs of different industries. The main raw materials used in ferrosilicon production are quartz (or silica), coke (carbon), and iron scrap or iron ore. The ferrosilicon manufacturing process can be divided into several steps:

Step 01: Make iron. Through the process of blast furnace ironmaking, iron ore is reduced to iron and pig iron is obtained. This is one of the raw materials of ferrosilicon.

Step 02: Smelting. Ferrosilicon is obtained by smelting pig iron with high purity silica. In the smelting process, it is necessary to control factors such as reaction temperature, reaction time and raw material ratio to ensure the quality and composition of ferrosilicon.

Step 03: Casting. The resulting molten ferrosilicon is poured into the mold. Then it is cooled and solidified to get a ferrosilicon block.

Step 04: Processing. Ferrosilicon blocks are processed, such as crushing, grinding, etc., to obtain different specifications of ferrosilicon products.

Ferrosilicon uses

Steelmaking. One of the primary uses of ferrosilicon is in the steelmaking industry. It is added to molten steel to deoxidize and desulfurize the metal. Ferrosilicon helps improve the quality of steel by removing impurities and enhancing its mechanical properties, such as strength and hardness.

Foundry Industry. In foundries, ferrosilicon is utilized as a deoxidizing agent and as an inoculant to promote the formation of graphite in cast iron. This helps control the structure and properties of the cast metal.
